Championship courses designed by Pete Dye, Arnold Palmer and Tom Clark. And fairways and greens for as long as there’s light to see. The lush, rolling hills of Kingsmill's three brilliantly designed courses challenge golfers at all skill levels.
The River Course
The River Course served as a popular PGA Tour site for 22 years and is currently home to the LPGA Tour’s Michelob ULTRA Open. Television viewers are familiar with the course’s signature 17th hole – a par 3 hole perched on the edge of the James River. In 2004, original architect Pete Dye returned to Kingsmill to oversee changes to the River Course layout and green complexes. The renovation included the addition of tees from which golfers of all abilities can enjoy, redesigned fairway bunkering on several holes presents new and exciting challenges, and resurfaced greens allow for faster and smoother putting on the recontoured surfaces.
The Plantation Course
The Plantation Course, designed by Arnold Palmer and Ed Seay, incorporates undulating greens into the natural landscape. In addition, historic landmarks create a challenging and beautiful layout for players of all abilities.
Water influences shot selection on many picturesque holes. Incorporated into the landscape are remaining buildings and a site from a 1736 plantation.
The Plantation Course is the least difficult course from tee to green at Kingsmill; however, it is the most challenging and difficult to putt as evidenced by the design of greens contours and undulations.
The Woods Course
Designed by Tom Clark and opened in July, 1995, the Woods Course features wide fairways, deep ravines and a spectacular wooded setting. This course is distinguished by a number of significant archaeological sites which have been carefully preserved. The Woods Course was named among Golf magazine's "Top 10 New Courses Available For Public Play."
The Woods Course also features its own clubhouse and golf shop, nestled in a beautiful wooded area. Kingsmill greens feature bent grass, while fairways have hybrid bermuda grass June to September, and rye grass October to May. The typical green speed is 9 to 9.5, providing a professional level of play.
The 200-acre Woods Course is Kingsmill's third championship course. With outstanding topography and a variety of holes, the Woods Course is challenging for the best of players and yet designed for all levels of golfers to enjoy!
